Sania crashed out of singles, but advanced in doubles
[Fri Sep , 06:53:32]At the ongoing US Open 2009 tournament the Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza crashes out of singles event by losing to world no. 10 Flavia Pennetta 0-6, 0-6 in the second round. However she is advanced to second round of women's doubles and mixed doubles.
In singles Pennetta didn't give any chance to Mirza to win a single game. Mirza was completely whitewashed by her opponent in two straight sets which lasted for just 50 minutes. Pennetta is the first Italian woman who reached the top 10 list of WTA rankings.
After her defeat to the Italian at Louis Armstrong Stadium, Mirza said, "If she plays like that she is going to win the Open."
"I was not thinking, 'I am playing such horrible tennis.' She had an answer for everything. That's something you just have to deal with and move on. Tomorrow's a new day," added Sania.
In women's doubles, Mirza along with Francesca Schiavone of Italy bring down Renata Voracova and Ekaterina Dzehalevich 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 in first round. For second round the Indian-Italian pair now aims for Gisela Dulko and Shahar Peer.
For mixed doubles, Sania is paired up with Daniel Nestor of Canada. They made to the second round of the event by beating Ashley Fisher and Akgul Amanmuradova 6-3, 6-1 in the first round.
The other Indians present at the event Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes also made to the second round of men's doubles event along with their respective partners. However, Somdev Devvarman crashes out from men's singles of US Open 2009 losing to Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 3-6, 4-6, 6-0, 2-6 in the second round.
