Sania takes off for a Malaysian event
[Fri Dec 18, 2009]

Malaysia has always been good for Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza. Not because she had played tournaments there in her junior years, but because it's also a favourite holiday place for her and her family.

"Malaysia is one of the best places to visit for vacations," says Sania.
However, this time we are talking about her campaign at Showdown of Champions 2009 starting from tomorrow December 19. It's a two day event, where Sania will be part of a Asian team and will take on the Russian team. For the team Sania is paired with World no. 36 Zheng Jie of China. The duo will face the Russian pair of Elena Dementieva (world No. 5) and Maria Kirilenko (world No. 62). Sania's current world ranking is 58. Excited about the tournament, Sania said, "I am looking forward to playing in this tournament. I've never partnered Zheng Jie before and I hope to get the crowd to cheer us on."

The tournament will take place at The Glam Slam at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam. Showdown of Champions 2009 is one of the strategies by Malaysian tourism department to attract sports enthusiast to the country.

Talking about her plans on the front of new season starting next year, Sania said, "Next year I will be at a crucial stage of my career as I aim to make it into the top 20 in the singles rankings."
