Sania ousted from Australian Open singles
[Wed Jan 20, 2010]Sania Mirza lost to world number 27 Aravane Rezai of France in the very first round of Australian Open singles event. Rezai is seeded 26th at the event, while Mirza is unseeded. It was a one hour nine minute match where Mirza went down to Rezai in two straight sets 4-6, 2-6.
The first set 4-6 was of equal opportunities to break for both the players. But, Sania was unable to covert the opportunity into win the set. In the second set too, Sania missed four breakpoints, while losing her serve thrice.
Meanwhile hopes of Sania Mirza at Australian Open now rely in doubles event for which she is partnering with Spanish player Virginia Ruano Pascual. For the first round they will take on Yayuk Basuki of Indonesia and Kimiko Date Krumm of Japan.
